Biography

St. Clair's interdisciplinary practice investigates the convergence of human debris and natural forces across diverse landscapes. Through systematic foraging and material reuse, her work enacts environmental processes, establishing methodologies for understanding our entanglements with the environments we inhabit. Her material investigations span painting, installation, printmaking, photography, and fiber work, often incorporating natural dyes, fibers and foraged materials.

St. Clair earned her BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and MFA from the University of Michigan–Stamps School of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited internationally at major museums (Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit; Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte; Toledo Art Museum), university galleries (Northern Kentucky University; University of Maine, Augusta), and art centers (Burren College of Art, Ireland; Zhou B. Art Center, Chicago; Greenhill Center for NC Arts, Greensboro). She received Best in Show at both the 95th Toledo Area Artists Exhibition and University of Michigan Annual Alumni Exhibition, plus the 2019 Mint Museum Affiliates Choice Award. Her commissioned works include a mural and collaborative workshop project for the Health Innovation Center at Northern Kentucky University. St. Clair has been awarded residencies at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Vermont Studio Center, Penland School of Crafts, and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. She currently serves as Associate Professor of Art at Davidson College, where she was honored with the Lester D. Coltrane III Named Professorship for her commitment to teaching.
