Sara Carter

Arcadia Art Consultancy is thrilled to announce Frequency Into Form, a special exhibition of works by abstract painter Sara Carter, presented in collaboration with the artist.

Sara Carter’s paintings do not explain themselves, and that is part of their charm. Working in gestural abstraction, she creates compositions that operate less like images and more like emotional barometers. The work hums with energy, controlled but never tame, and seems to register something beneath language. Originally from Houston, TX, Carter spent over twenty years in San Francisco, CA before relocating to Austin, TX, where she now lives and works.

Her practice is rooted in responsiveness rather than strategy. She paints in cycles, allowing each work to unfold through a dialogue between structure and instinct. There is a quiet intelligence to the way her surfaces hold contradiction: density beside clarity, tension beside calm, rigor beside release. The paintings feel as if they have arrived on their own terms rather than been pushed into being.

Carter does not deliver a message or narrative. She offers presence. The paintings are generous in their ambiguity and confident enough to leave space for the viewer. They are not puzzles to be solved but environments to spend time in. That they resist conclusion is exactly what allows them to endure.

Her work has been included in group exhibitions at the Monterey Museum of Art, the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, and Kunsthalle Recklinghausen in Germany. She has presented solo exhibitions at de boer gallery and Edward Cella Art and Architecture in Los Angeles. Her paintings are held in private and public collections, including Memorial Sloan Kettering and the di Rosa Foundation.
